Heavily-armed Peel Regional Police officers were called to a Mississauga apartment after a man barricaded himself inside one of the units.

The incident on North Service Road, near Camilla Road, lasted about  three hours on Friday (March 30) as police were called there for a “person in distress” who reportedly assaulted someone.

Police say the man was expressing suicidal thoughts and had barricaded himself inside an apartment.

Police negotiators were on scene, as well as Peel Region Paramedics as a precaution.

Three hours later, the man was taken into custody and taken to hospital for psychiatric assessment.

He has also been charged with assault.

Police are not naming the man due to him being apprehended under the Mental Health Act.
