Peel Regional Police shut down a major intersection for more than 12 hours after a two-vehicle crash late Friday (March 30) that involved a stolen vehicle.

The crash occurred just before 10:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Road North and Williams Parkway.

Peel Const. Iryna Yashnyk said police tried to stop a stolen SUV in the area but the driver fled and as a result, crashed with another vehicle at the busy intersection.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit, which probes all cases involving police and civilians that end in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault, was made aware of the incident but chose not to invoke its mandate because the injuries weren’t deemed serious.

Peel Region Paramedics said two people, including at least one driver, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said charges have been laid in connection with the incident.

Yadwinder Singh, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of stolen property and flight from police.

The intersection re-opened around noon on March 31.
