On Sunday, September 3, 2017, at approximately 1:00 a.m., it is alleged that an off duty Peel Regional Police officer, Constable Wayne Parkins, was involved in a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Courtney Park Drive and Hurontario Street, in the City of Mississauga. After striking a light standard and prior to police arriving, he fled the scene of the collision.  After a brief investigation he was located and arrested.

Constable Parkins, a 14 year veteran of the Peel Regional Police, has been charged with Impaired Driving, Excess Blood Alcohol, and Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.

Constable Wayne Parkins was suspended with pay as per the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act. The Act stipulates that officers when suspended from duty are done so with pay.

Officers are subject to the same laws as all other members of the public and are also subject to discipline under the Ontario Police Services Act.

The officer’s first appearance date is scheduled for September 19, 2017, at the A. Grenville & William Davis Court House in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans is committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining the public’s confidence and trust when dealing with allegations of police officer misconduct.  The investigation into this incident is still on going.
