“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Council, I join with our City’s vibrant South Asian community to celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhorh Divas.

“Diwali is the celebrated festival of lights. It embodies the virtues of tolerance, inclusiveness, the importance of education, and the promise of living a good and rewarding life.

“During Diwali, families gather to light candles and fireworks, and share in new memories together. May this enriching experience bring endless joy, prosperity, health and wealth forever to you and your loved ones.

“In 2017, we also celebrated an important milestone with the 150th anniversary of Confederation and the founding of Canada. Our country continues to be enriched by the lasting nation-building contributions of our South Asian community, and from communities around the world. To celebrate Canada is to celebrate the diversity of Canadians.

“Last year, Council permanently extended the fireworks exemption to Diwali.

“Once again, from my family to yours, I would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhorh Divas.”
