City opening a new Service Brampton Centre and revitalizing Lester B. Pearson Theatre.
BRAMPTON, ON – Some exciting developments are underway at one of Brampton’s most popular facilities – the Brampton Civic Centre. In February, the City’s only in-person Service Brampton Centre outside of City Hall will open for business, and construction will begin on renovations to Lester B. Pearson Theatre.
Service Brampton Centre
The new Service Brampton Centre will provide information and enable residents to request City services and complete some transactions on the spot, such as recreation registration, parking ticket payments and theatre ticket purchases. Only credit, debit or cheque payments will be accepted at this new location. Cash payments may be made at City Hall.
City services and information are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone at 311, or online at www.brampton.ca. The Service Brampton Centres at City Hall and the Civic Centre are designed to enhance the visitor experience at those locations, and provide an option for residents who prefer face-to-face service. Further expansions of Service Brampton Centres are expected to continue at other City facilities over the coming years to provide in-person access to residents.
The new Service Brampton Centre is expected to open in February 2019.
Lester B. Pearson Theatre
The City is investing in arts, culture and community spaces with the $2.6 million revitalization of Lester B. Pearson Theatre (LBP). The renovations will enhance accessibility and health and safety features, upgrade technical equipment, and create a more attractive, welcoming space. Included in this plan is a redesigned lobby area, which will not only make the theatre a more appealing venue but will also serve as a community gathering place for all visitors to the Civic Centre.
Brampton’s 2040 Vision and Culture Master Plan both call for investment in cultural and community spaces. To meet this goal, the City is taking steps to make better use of its smaller performance venues (LBP and Cyril Clark Theatre). The Cyril Clark Theatre was recently renovated to create an updated, affordable option for smaller-scale performances and rehearsal space. The revitalization of LBP will continue to enhance and expand the options available to local performing arts groups, including a 415-seat theatre, and a studio space suitable for rehearsals and creative workshops.
LBP is currently closed for renovations. Construction is expected to begin in February 2019, with completion anticipated in Fall 2019. For more information, visit www.brampton.ca/LBP.
