BRAMPTON, ON: Newcomers to Brampton are once again invited to participate in an award-winning community program. The City of Brampton is offering free, family-friendly bus tours on August 22 and 24 to educate new residents on City facilities, services and history.

The program, which has been operational since 2009, is made available through a partnership between the City’s Recreation division, Brampton Transit and Brampton Library. In March of this year, the Newcomer Bus Tour program received the Upstart Innovation Award from the American Library Association, which recognizes creative and innovative library programs.

During the three-hour tour, participants will:
• Visit a community centre to learn about recreation opportunities and facility amenities
• Explore one of six library branches to discover the diverse resources available and how to access them
• Ride a Brampton Transit bus and receive a hands-on workshop about Brampton’s transit map, the advantages of PRESTO fare cards and when riders need a transfer

The tours are meant to be informative and entertaining, with quizzes and prizes along the way to keep things educational and fun.

Registration is now open! Residents who moved to Brampton after January 1, 2014 are invited to attend. For more information, contact the Brampton Library at 905.793.4636, visit any Brampton Library branch, or check www.brampton.ca/recreation
